Areas of work

  • Part of the Offshore Management Group, with an independently professional advisory role. Reports to the Offshore Installation Manager (OIM) as resource owner, and professionally to the Lead Doctor (Fagansvarlig Lege - FAL) onshore.

Health & Medical Preparedness

  • Ensure daily operation of the Offshore Health Clinic in accordance with laws and regulations
  • Provide professional healthcare and carry out medical examinations and treatment of patients in collaboration with the on-call doctor
  • Ensure 24/7 medical emergency preparedness
  • Provide advice to the line manager in collaboration with the responsible physician during outbreaks of infectious diseases or epidemics

 

Drinking water, food and hygiene

  • Monitor the quality of drinking water and advise on necessary actions in case of deviations
  • Provide expertise and guidance on general hygiene issues and food handling.

 

Health and Safety 

  • Contribute to protecting workers from exposure to hazardous workplace environmental factors
  • Bring safety and work environment-related matters to the attention of relevant professionals within the country organisation. Communicate advice and proposed mitigating measures to the offshore leadership team.
  • Report to occupational health services and inform the responsible physician if employees show signs or symptoms of work-related illness or injury

Main tasks

Health & Medical Preparedness 

  • In collaboration with the duty doctor, carry out necessary medical examinations and tests to implement first aid and subsequent medical treatment.
  • Conduct medical interviews and tests as part of a risk-based health surveillance programme. Document all test results in the employee's medical records
  • Upon detection of signs and symptoms of possible work-related illness or injury, conduct an initial interview and examination of the patient. Notify and report the results to the occupational health service in accordance with procedures. Inform the responsible physician.
  • Carry out medical examinations to certify SAR members and ensure documentation in accordance with procedures
  • Train the first aid group and lead the group in a medical emergency
  • Replenish stock and check medicines and medical equipment, including equipment related to emergency hospitals and potential outbreaks of infectious diseases and epidemics.
  • Provide advice and implement necessary control measures in the event of infectious disease outbreaks or epidemics, in collaboration with the responsible physician. Ensure all medical-technical equipment is maintained and calibrated in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations.

 

Drinking water, food and hygiene 

  • Carry out regular drinking water testing (sampling) to verify water quality. Maintain records and document results. Record deviations in Synergi. Report deviations to the OIM and the responsible doctor and contribute to the process of determining the root cause and proposing corrective actions.
  • Organise and lead regular hygiene inspections according to plan

 

Safety and working environment

Provide advice and guidance to line managers and personnel regarding health risk exposure factors during the planning and execution of work tasks. This includes, but is not limited to:

    • Identification and evaluation of workplace risk factors (physical, psychological, chemical, biological and ergonomic factors)
    • Participate and contribute in “Labour Law” meetings and “Safe Job Analysis” meetings to advise on mitigating actions according to the hierarchy of controls
    • Follow-up on the execution of work tasks in the field through job observations and inspections
    • Provide information to offshore crews (personnel) based on risk assessment and workplace mapping
    • Provide advice and guidance on handling chemicals
  • In accordance with regulations, update the exposure register with necessary details if personnel are exposed to hazardous substances and chemicals. Notify the health service.
  • Carry out mask fit testing and earplug testing when necessary
  • Participate and contribute in bi-weekly HSE meetings
  • Carry out minor noise-related measurements

 

Qualifications

  • State Authorised Nurse, preferably with specialist training in acute medicine, surgery or intensive care nursing
  • Minimum 5 years' relevant experience
  • Experience with working environment
  • Detailed knowledge of working environment legislation and standards (specifically NORSOK S-002, C-001 and C-002).
  • Knowledge of Norwegian Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) regulations and standards (including NORSOK) for petroleum activities
  • Good communication and collaboration skills
  • Fluent both written and spoken in Norwegian and English
