These days, many people are in the final stages of their studies and have started thinking about the next step. Getting your first relevant job as a recent graduate isn't always easy. Here are some tips that might be helpful on the road to your first job after completing your studies.
CV
First on the education at the top
- Unless you have a significant amount of relevant experience, you should structure your CV so that your education comes first, as this will be most relevant to the employer. Feel free to include some keywords about particularly relevant subjects you have studied. If you have completed a semester abroad, this should be highlighted, as it demonstrates independence, curiosity, and, not least, good language skills.
Include information about the bachelor's/master's thesis
- You can also include information about your bachelor's/master's thesis. This will help to show your interest in your chosen field of study and can spark an employer's interest. If the thesis is publicly available, you can include a link to it.
Include tasks, responsibilities, and results
- Part-time jobs, summer jobs, and other small engagements you may have had over the years are good experiences to have when applying for jobs after your studies. List the tasks/responsibilities you have had, and any results you have contributed to. It is even better if you also have good references to show.

Emphasise internships, positions of responsibility and voluntary work
- Internships, volunteering and other voluntary work are invaluable and important to include on your CV. In this way, you show that you have gained experience and knowledge that can be transferred, but also that you are committed and that you succeed in juggling multiple commitments. These experiences are especially important if you have had tasks in a role that are relevant to the job you are applying for.
APPLICATION
Use the application to stand out
- Describe and give examples of what your previous experiences have taught you, and why this might be beneficial for the position you are applying for.
Show what you are like as a person
- Employers are also looking for personal qualities and abilities, so highlight what you're like as a person and your approach to tasks. Feel free to give examples of how you use your personal qualities in a work context.

Take time to read the job description., and adapt the application to this
- Read the job description and qualifications carefully, and try to link them to your experiences or qualities using examples.
